THIS APPLICATION WAS REJECTED ON A 2-1 VOTE OF THE BECKLEY BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS!

It was a closer call than I expected, but then Father Samuel (from St. Nicholas) and I were the only ones who appeared to oppose the variance. We both spoke briefly to the Board.

I'm still concerned that the only official notice of this application was - apparently - a legal notice in the Register-Herald.. As of this morning, the long-awaited letter from the city still hadn't arrived. It's just one more reminder that it's always important for us to do what we can to keep each other informed.

After the meeting, I assured the owner of Dakota Joe's that our opposition involved his plan to install video lottery machines in uptown Beckley, and that we wish him the very best in his efforts to establish a successful restaurant. None of us benefit from empty buildings. Anyone want to join me for lunch?
